NEW NYC ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMERCIAL OCCUPANCIES

United Spinal Association provides accredited training and technical assistance on the latest city, state and federal accessibility requirements throughout the country.

The focus of this new 2-hour course is the accessibility requirements of the new NYC Construction Code and their impact on commercial occupancies. The class curriculum was developed with the help of the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) and the New York City Department of Buildings. Course Highlights Include:

  1. Review of new requirements impacting access to commercial buildings.
  2. Comparison of new requirements to NYC’s original accessibility requirements - Local Law 58.
  3. Accessibility requirements pertaining to parking, exterior routes, entrances, vertical accessibility, and plumbing fixtures.
  4. Handouts will include applicable scoping and reference standard materials to support class topics.

  1. Review of new requirements impacting access to multi-family residential buildings, in addition to transient and institutional occupancies.
  2. Comparison of new requirements to NYC’s original accessibility requirements - Local Law 58.
  3. Definitions and differences between Accessible, Adaptable, Type A and Type B dwelling units.
  4. Summary of accessibility requirements pertaining to site design, exterior routes, building entrances, and common use areas.
  5. Handouts will include applicable scoping and reference standard materials to support class topics.
